Does the lumber mill allow you to build all your fences for free--in one action you can use all of your fencing supply?

Thanks!

This is not covered in the Compendium.

Since the Gardner keeps Vegetables on the field, can I still convert the Vegetable I receive from the supply into 4 food (as lettuce).

Just bought this game. Mechanics are awesome but the rules are very very very hard to understand. Concepts are used without having been explained etc. Am I the only one with this opinion? Are there other sets of rules written in a different way? I am close to be upset how it's difficult to play this game that looks otherwise very interesting. Or is there a translation issue?

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: [Clarification Needed] Minor Improvement: Bread Paddle

by Malisent

I've searched the forums and while I've found topics on this card, not quite my question. I have the 2016 edition (think the wording may have been different on a previous version of the card).

The text of the card is "For each occupation you play, you get an additional 'Bake Bread' action."

Does the word 'additional' mean I need to already have a Major Improvement that has the 'Bake Bread' action on it (not indicated in the pre-reqs of the card)? And if not, am I spending a grain to complete this action, and how many grain to food am I getting without a card giving me the amount?

Thanks in advance!

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: stable hand card and fence action

Hello ,
The fences action :
“Fences may only be built if they will create a fully enclosed pasture, with fences on all sides”
stable hand card:
"whenever you build at least one fence, you also receive 1 stable, which you must build immediately. (this may be built inside or outside the fenced area)."

Q : If I want to use fences action it should be at least 4 fences to be built to enclose pasture , so why the stable hand says at least one fence , how is possible to do this since the fence action doesn’t allow it ?

Thanks

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: Family Growth

We had a rules point come up regarding the Family Growth cards in a 3 player game.

1) A person with 3 active family members and 4 rooms in his house chose family growth without an available room to generate his 4th family member.

2)This gave him 4 family members and 4 rooms for the start of the next round.

3)The next turn (still with 4 rooms and 4 active family members)he went on family growth with a minor improvement to generate a 5th family member.

When I questioned it, he insisted he still had an available room because the previous round he had used the family growth without a room available card so the family member he generated on that turn did not take up a room.

Any thoughts?

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: Can the Dozing Bull be used during a fencing action

The z-deck minor, Dozing Bull (z322)says "As long as you have at least 1 cattle in your farm, you can knock down your fences and rebuild them
at any time, for no cost ... Fences must always be placed according to the
rules". Does the requirement to fence according to rules apply strictly during the use of the Minor itself, so that the Bull would be knocking down and erecting the fences? Or, could you start a Fencing action, use the Dozing Bull to knock down fences, so long as at the end of the Fencing action the fencing rules were followed? To put it another way, does the Bull allow you to choose to "knock down and immediately rebuild" or two choices, "to knock down" and the option of "rebuilding"?

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: Midwife timing

Rules question:

Suppose I have 3 family members, and the opponent in question has 2 family members.

I play family growth during a round.
Right afterwards, my opponent plays Midwife as an occupation.
(This reads: "Whenever another player has offspring and then has
a larger family than you, you receive 1 food.")

(No other family growth happens this round)

Does my opponent collect 1 food when my offspring token returns to my supply at the end of round? Or do I "have offspring" as soon as I take the family growth action, and thus the window has passed this round?

Thanks!

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: Madonna vs Smoking Mantlepiece

Hi all,

I have a question regarding this combination.

First the explanation of each cards:

Smoking Mantlepiece: -3 points

When you play this card, you get 1 Bonus point per complete Round left to be played. You cannot use any more Renovation actions.

Madonna: Remove 2 played Improvements

The Madonna Statue has no effect. (You must remove Improvements that are on the table in front of you. You may not discard cards from your hand. It is irrelevant whether you remove Major or Minor Improvements.)

The question I have is: If I remove Smoking Mantlepiece with Madonna, what will exactly happen? I assume you'll receive the bonus points per rounds because it seems to be a trigger. But can you renovate when you remove the Smoking Mantlepiece?

Thanks for you answer!

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: Downsizing (WM deck 075) fencing by the rules before downsizing or only after?

by Simonjohn

"Downsizing" says "when you build at least one fence, you may return one wooden room ... and build up to 7 additional fences". I wasn't sure whether you had to fence according to rules before you gained the 7 additional fences, or whether, with one wood say, you could start building one fence without satisfying the rules, and then actually build 8. At first I thought you would have to satisfy the rules before you gained the extra 7 fences, possibly because I was haunted by this post here. Since then, having looked at Stablehand and Hedge keeper, I wonder if "when" means you can use a card during an action. It would be great to know if "when" allows you to use a card during an action and in this case whether fencing rules only need to be followed after the additional 7 fences are used.

Thread: Agricola:: Rules:: open information - what is required?

by Gronak

This is a game with a lot of clutter on the table. What player information is required to be kept open & visible to the other players?

Without a standard from the rules its hard to get players to keep things organized and not obscured by drinks etc.

Another problem is that people have individual methods of denoting a family member who is still a baby & thus cannot be played this round.

The other players in my group don't understand the need. I guess they don't look around to see if another player is likely to take Fences this bound, or if its safe to take something else first.
